Pool Lifeguarding is a fun, flexible and dynamic job. It is also a point of entry for a career in the aquatics industry. The first step in becoming a Pool Lifeguard is getting qualified. The training undertaken ensures that every Lifeguard possesses the skills and knowledge to handle a wide variety of incidents that occur on a day to day basis at aquatic centres. Course Components include Supervision, Risk Management, Communication, Aquatic Rescues and Emergency Rescues.

The training course is conducted over four days and includes an eLearning component. All candidates are required to successfully complete a range of practical assessments (within time limits) and a theory exam.

HLTAID003 Provide First Aid

SISCAQU002 Perform Basic Water Rescue

SISCAQU006 Supervise clients in aquatic locations

SISCAQU007 Perform advanced water rescues

PUAEME001B Provide emergency care

PUAEME003C Administer oxygen in an emergency situation

The Pool Lifeguard skill set is fee-free for youth, concession students and displaced workers. Royal Life Saving WA offers the Pool Lifeguard Skill Set under Priority Industry Training (PIT) at aquatic centres throughout WA.
