Swim Teaching is a fun, flexible and dynamic job. It is also a point of entry for a career in the aquatic recreation industry. The first step in becoming a Swim Teacher is getting qualified. This means obtaining a Nationally accredited Swimming and Water Safety Teacher Skill set and License which is the minimum qualification for Swim Teachers and meets the standards across Australia.

The training course is conducted over two days and includes an eLearning component. The training undertaken ensures that every Swim Teacher possesses the skills and knowledge to conduct learn to swim lessons across a wide variety of aquatic centres. All candidates are required to successfully complete a range of practical assessments (within time limits) and a theory exam.

Units delivered:

SISCAQU008 Instruct water familiarisation, buoyancy and mobility skills

SISCAQU010 Instruct swimming strokes

SISCAQU009 Instruct water safety and survival skills

SISCAQU002 Perform basic water rescues

The Swimming and Water Safety Teacher skill set is fee-free for youth, concession students and displaced workers. Royal Life Saving WA offers the Swimming and Water Safety Teacher Set under Priority Industry Training (PIT) at aquatic centres throughout WA.
